OOn a truly magnificently prepared RES motocross circuit in Axel, the second clubcross of the 3 season was held on Saturday 2012 March. The circuit was specially opened up last week to ensure that the Axel sandpit could be used optimally now that the frost has risen from the ground. For the motocross riders themselves, this means a tough test of fitness and strength. No fewer than 150 participants were present, including many regional pilots who gratefully make use of this competition to be able to ride their races in their own region. The fact that motocross attracts a broad target group is evident from the fact that the youngest participant was 8 years old and the oldest 65 years old.

The fact that a sand circuit changed during the course of a race was clearly visible in the lap times of Bo de Clerck from Waarschoot. This young man won both series in the 85cc class, but the lap times of the first round were no less than 10 seconds faster than his times. the second heat.
Up-and-coming talent and member of the Youth MX Zeeuws-Vlaanderen Joey de Wulf from Oostburg has clearly taken a few steps in his development. This young man, who is only eleven years old, is fully competing for prizes this year, and he took second place today. There were 25 participants at the start in this well-filled class.
Daily results: 1. Bo de Clerck 2. Joey de Wulf 3. Stan Brons 4. Bart Klijn 5. Jonas van de Walle
MX2/125cc leisure riders
The highlight this day were 42 registrations in the MX2 class, two participants were transferred to the open class upon request because only 40 riders are allowed to leave at the same time. 40 riders also means that 8 have to start in the second row because there is only room for 32 riders behind the Axel starting gate. Three debutants from the Youth MX team Zeeuws-Vlaanderen started today on a 85cc motorcycle after their switch from the 125cc class. Tom Cortvriendt did this in an excellent way by competing right away with the big boys with a tenth and a seventh place, an eighth place in the day's results was a good start. Jules Adam from Axel and Stijn Kint from Kloosterzande made it a game within a game, both fought in the backfield, but they passed lap after lap shoulder to shoulder. During the series they constantly changed places, which was nice to see for the numerous enthusiasts who showed up along the side. The victory in this class went to good old Aswin van Damme from Zuiddorpe.
Day results: 1. Aswin van Damme 2. Dimitri Lamotte 3. Sven Goossen 4. Rohald Vrijelinck 5. Mathieu Afschrift
MX open class
30 participants in this class with a mighty Gian-Carlo Buijs from Oost-Souburg who, after a short trip to Honda, returned to the gate on a yellow Suzuki motorcycle. The fact that he felt happy on the Suzuki was evident from how smoothly he rode through the cuts. Gian-Carlo was the overall winner in this class. Martijn Roos from Zuiddorpe and Dominique Soeters from Terneuzen, one on a 4-stroke and the other on a 2-stroke machine, but both members of the Youth MX increasingly compete close to each other. In the first heat, Roos came in eighth and Soeters as ninth across the finish line.
Day results: 1. Gian-Carlo Buijs 2. Yannick Heylen 3. Michael Bruyninckx 4. Bart Seymortier 5. Martin Boodt

Beautiful duels and battles at the cutting edge in this pure enthusiast class that attracts pilots from Eindhoven to Ypres. In the A class we saw a clear victory for Eric Mercie from Estinnes who showed up very strongly. In the B class it was again RES employee Marc Standaert, the man who can do with an excavator what Rubens could do with a brush.

The Queen Class was of course eagerly awaiting the first appearance this season by Grand-Prix rider and Youth MX trainer Roy Gijsel from Heikant. This year, acting on a white KTM machine, it took some getting used to for the audience, but he is quickly recognized by his specific riding style. In the lead from start to finish for both series, he is busy building up his season. This week he will go to Royal-Hills in the south of France with his new team to further fine-tune the i's during a week's internship. Boy Stockman from Terneuzen, also a Youth MX trainer, will start at the BMB nationals this year and, just like in the first RES competition, managed to manifest himself at the front for a long time via a magnificent holeshot as the competition progresses, he then has to give up a few places. With some extra fitness work it should also be possible for him to reach the podium.
Day results: 1. Roy Gijsel 2. Devon Vermeulen 3. Jeffrey van Kempen 4. Rinie van Linden 5. Roy van Heugten
