EExtreme freezing temperatures have plagued Western Europe in recent days. With the DT1 Dash for Cash Opening Cross in Lommel in sight in five days, we went to check with spokesman Leon Van Gestel. The big question was: 'Is there a plan B?'. “No, we are not thinking about that at all. We have continued to prepare for this race as we had planned in advance. Last Thursday we also decided to make the decision on whether or not to continue the match on Wednesday. There's no point in panicking. Moreover, it would have been fatal if we had canceled the match too early in advance while conditions could still evolve favorably in the following days. That would be doubly bad because we now also have a great field of participants at the start. Of course we don't want to cause disasters either, we just have to wait and see.”

“Unfortunately, postponement does not offer a solution. Just look at the international calendar, it will be packed with Valence and Mantova, Marival La Capelle and Hawkstone Park in the coming weeks. The first free Sunday would in principle be March 4, but that coincides with the first ONK, which means we will lose all Dutch riders. So that is not what we want.”
