Kand De Dycker steered his Honda CRF450R to two victories yesterday in the final round of the Open Dutch Motocross Championship in Mill, North Brabant. It was the third ONK final victory of the season for De Dycker, who has started the ONK three times this season. The fast Belgian was joined on the podium by fellow countryman Marvin Van Daele, Ronnie Van Rooij came in third. Yentel Martens secured the vice-championship title in extremis after Herjan Brakke.
Until the end of the 1990s, Circuit Park 'De Kuilen' was a regular stopping place on the World Cup calendar. Since then, the organizing club MSC Mill has continued to play an important role in the Dutch Championship, where Mill often served as the closing act. Yet the ONK started last year in Mill, of all places, and De Dycker took home the podium with a double victory.
After a pole in qualifying, De Dycker would remain at the front all day. In the opening moto Ken didn't have a great start, but he was able to quickly move towards the front. De Dycker would lead every lap of the race. Ultimately, he crossed the finish line first ahead of Van Rooij and Reijnders. Keeno also had a slow start in the second moto. From 7th place in the first lap, De Dycker quickly bounced back. In the second lap the LS Honda rider was already third behind Van Daele. As soon as he passed Van Daele, De Dycker headed towards Evgeny Bobryshev. After five rounds, the Russian seasonal revelation also had to be killed. Keeno then moved on, creating a significant gap on his pursuers. After Ken dropped the pace, they made up some time, but De Dycker was able to take a second well-deserved victory after 30 minutes and two laps of the race.
Ken Dycker: “It was nice to win here again, but in terms of driving it could have been better. I haven't trained much with the bike in recent weeks and I have noticed that. I felt a bit stiff on the bike and in the first moto I didn't ride so smoothly. Thanks to adjustments to my suspension, the feeling in the second series was a lot better. My reaction at the starting gate was not that good, but my speed was higher. After passing Bobryshev I set some fast laps. Then I checked everything because I didn't want to take too many risks. In general, however, it was a beautiful day and the track was also in good condition, except for a few wetter sections.”
