DThanks to a large prize pool (60.000 euros for the overall winner, 30.000 for the runner-up) and the participation of the KTM factory team, the Italian championship is an event not to be missed as a preparation for the World Championship.
David Philippaerts did not miss his start in the Internazionali d'Italia despite the heavy mud. He won the first series ahead of Cairoli and Strijbos. In the second series, Philippaerts finished second after Yamaha teammate Frossard, who was also doing well in Valence last week. Kevin Strijbos finished second in the final standings on equal points with Frossard, but Frossard's better second series put The Kid in third place, although the difference with the Frenchman in the second series was barely 2 seconds!
In MX2, Paulin won the first series, but through a second place and a victory in the second moto (seventh in total), Herlings took victory in MX2, Van Horebeek came second ahead of Glenn Coldenhoff.
