SBreugelmans had luck on his side in the first heat in Lille when Jurgen Van Nooten made a mistake. In the second heat it was the other way around. “Everyone in turn, nothing is too much,” beamed Van Nooten, winner of the 2010 Challenger Trophy of the BMB. After a heat win last year, now a final victory on the Breugelheide for the Retienaar.
How satisfied are you with this victory?
Jurgen Van Nooten: “This was my first competition in three months, so it feels good to win immediately! It didn't go too bad, but after such a long rest period you always suffer from pumped up arms. That was of course also the case for the others.”
You had a pretty comfortable lead in the first moto, were you mad at yourself for that mistake?
Jurgen Van Nooten: "Actually yes! I also had some sore arms, I lost all grip on an ice spot and it was over. Then I gave everything for Sven (Breugelmans; ed.) but it was just a little too short.”
What was it like driving with artificial lights in the final sequence?
Jurgen Van Nooten: “It fits well with this cross, which gives everything a special atmosphere, very pleasant for the spectators too! Most places were well lit, but there were some places where it was really dark and where you had to be very careful with all those tracks and the treacherous underground. We also had to be careful on the table, but all in all it wasn't too bad.”
It seemed as if you were connected to Breugelmans by a rope in the second series, were you still confident in the victory because overtaking was difficult?
Jurgen Van Nooten: “I would have taken it back and we rode at the same pace for a whole series. Sven was able to take advantage when I started to overtake slower guys. It was very difficult to turn back because there were not many overtaking opportunities. But I knew that if I kept the pressure on I might be able to force him into a mistake and I succeeded!”
