MMore than 25,000 fans went wild in Madrid for the Spanish round of the Red Bull X-Fighters. Australian Robbie Maddison – known for his sporongs over London’s Tower Bridge in 2009 and Greece’s Corinth Canal earlier this year in 2010 – was the best. Second place went to the likeable Swiss Mat Rebeaud who made his comeback.
Maddison also made history in the packed arena as he launched a brand new trick. He rotated his body completely over the motorcycle and then returned to his saddle. “The Volt Body Varial definitely helped me win,” said Maddison: “I still can't believe it!”
Just weeks after returning to training, Mat Rebeaud celebrated his. In the semi-finals, 'Mattrix' defeated home favorite - and winner of Madrid in 2009 - Dany Torres (ESP). Although he 'only' celebrated this time, the Spaniard had nothing but praise for the enthusiastic spectators and winner Robbie Maddison: “The atmosphere can only be described as madness! Next year I want my revenge, but today Maddison deserved the win. Anyway, thanks to all the fans!”
The Norwegian Andrè Villa (NOR) finished third and remains in the lead in the World Tour standings. Villa now have a 45-point lead over Maddison. The fifth round will take place on August 14 in London. “I just have to stay regular and get back on the podium in London and in the final in Rome. If I succeed, I am almost certain of the overall victory,” said Villa.
