Ssupercross, motocross, west coast or east coast… It doesn't matter to Ryan Dungey. Yesterday Dungey was the strongest during the eighth round of the AMA Nationals in Washougal. In the meantime already the seventh (!) victory in a row for the Rockstar/Makita Suzuki pilot. GEICO Powersports Honda's Trey Canard also booked a double series victory in the 250 class, it was his third overall victory in a row.
Head starts are rare, but after two solid starts Dungey systematically worked his way to the front. The SX champion is clearly the fittest rider of the moment. After Dungey took the lead on the occasion of the retro weekend in a classic-looking Fox outfit, he was never threatened. Washougal was already his 12th series victory in 14 heats.
“Regardless of the exact conditions, every championship is tough,” said Dungey, who also won the past two years at Washougal in the 250 Class. “I'm not going to sell the bear skin yet, because we still have eight rounds to go. I just take everything game by game. If you don't do that, you start to get ahead of yourself and you end up making mistakes.” Andrew Short (Honda Red Bull Racing) once again proved his capabilities as a front starter in both heats. But Short also had the speed to move into second place. As we have been used to from him all season, Honda colleague Brett Metcalfe also made a solid impression. The Australian finished third (3-5). Equally typical of Ben Townley's season was his crash in the first moto. Townley fell in a wave section and injured his shoulder and suffered a concussion. Ben did not start again in the second heat. Dungey now has a generous lead of 95 points, Short is second, Metcalfe third.

Trey Canard again in the 250 class
Trey Canard is the only rider in the 250 class to take on the dominant Christophe Pourcel. In Washougal Canard continued his attack on the leader. He not only took two holeshots but also led from start to finish. “There was very little grip in some places, so I'm happy to come away unscathed with two wins,” said Canard. “It's unbelievable to win like that. I don't think it has to do with trust. More of a kind of confirmation for myself. We have had a tough schedule, so I am happy to start the two-week break this way.”
Christophe Pourcel (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki) finished second in the final standings (2-2) but maintains a 38-point lead in the standings. Pro Circuit teammate Tyla Rattray finished third (4-3). For the ninth round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, riders will head to Unadilla on the East Coast on August 14.
