Toni Bou made it clear in the Gallician Baiona why he is the favourite to succeed himself as world trial champion.
At the end of the day, Bou (Repsol-Montesa) had 23 fewer penalty points than Adam RagaI (Gas Gas). Jeroni Fajardo (Beta) would eventually finish third. Despite the new rule that states that the best riders in each category must start first, Bou was not bothered by the quite slippery course. After the first round, the Repsol-Montesa rider only had 15 penalty points to his credit, 15 fewer than teammate Takahisa Fujinami. However, the Japanese could not consolidate his 2nd place and would eventually finish 4th. After that first round it was already clear that Bou would be untouchable again. The real battle revolved around the remaining podium places. Raga then pulled off one of his strong final sprints and finished second (three penalty points less) ahead of Jeroni Fajardo.
Maxime Warenghien was the only Lowlander in Baiona. The Hainaut native finished 10th in the opening round of the Junior World Cup trial.
