IIn the Jacksonville Municipal stadium the victories this weekend went to the Kawasaki riders Ryan Villopoto and Christophe Pourcel. Villopoto tries to reduce his deficit in the championship while Pourcel increases his lead after his poor race.
In the SX class, Villopoto went off the track hard in the second practice, twisted his foot and suffered a broken toe. When he didn't show up for the third training session, the worst was feared, but Villopoto bit the bullet and took part in the evening program. What's more, he won his qualifying heat and later the final.
Ivan Tedesco took the fastest start in the final, but he soon had to make way for the red-haired Kawi rider with number 2. He immediately created a gap and no one saw him again. Championship leader Dungey started in fifth position and steadily worked his way up to second place. Trey Canard once again showed a great race and finished third again. In the standings, Dungey sees his lead shrink to 21 points, but with only five games to go he can afford to finish second every time Villopoto wins.
In the Lites class, the fastest start for Metcalfe was ahead of Stroupe and Pourcel. The former world champion looked at it for a few laps before moving into the lead in one lap. Pourcel immediately opened up a gap, but startled everyone when he crashed in the final phase. He quickly jumped back on the bike and retained his leading position. Austin Stroupe, his closest opponent, once again finished second and Brett Metcalfe took the last step of the podium. In the Lites East standings, Pourcel increases his lead to 1 points over Stroupe with two games to go.
Next weekend the riders will get a weekend of rest over the Easter weekend before flying back in for the hopefully spectacular final that starts in Houston, Texas
