Hhe Spanish motorcycle brand Rieju does not (yet) sound familiar to most of us. Probably because Rieju traditionally focused on light motorcycles and mopeds. Moreover, the Catalans have not focused on export for so long. However, Rieju has been working hard in recent years with the introduction of new models such as their Pro series: 250cc and 450cc enduro motorcycles. At the same time, distribution in Europe is also taking shape.

Rieju in the European Enduro Championships

The Belgian role in Rieju's ambitions goes much further than just sales. To underline the competitive spirit of the brand with the red 'R', its own team is also being set up. This Rieju factory team will be run by Belgian Luciano 'Lou' Arcangeli. The team around Arcangeli already proved their skills with the use of the great Fantics in the Belgian Enduro Championship. The Rieju will compete in both the European Championship and the Belgian Enduro Championship in 2010.

Perfect introduction to enduro: the Rieju 50cc MRT-Pro-Competition

Where did Rieju's sporting plans come from and why did she come to you to run the team?

Luciano Arcangeli: This effort proves that they mean business at Rieju. They really want to make themselves known on the market with their new 50cc and 250cc, but especially the 450 four-stroke that was built around a very high-quality and reliable engine (note: Yamaha). It is therefore a great honor for us to have been chosen as ambassadors of Rieju, but it is also a reward for the hard work we have done to promote enduro among the youth. Rieju has an affordable and solid offering. Moreover, it is also a manufacturer with enormous experience. It is a family factory that has been in business for more than 60 years! The big boss, Jordi Riera, also has a clear vision. They were looking for a young and flexible structure that can work quickly. Who is also used to working with a limited budget and who can make a difference at European level...

Which riders will you work with?

Luciano Arcangeli: First and foremost with a young Belgian, Jonathan Piette. Jonathan has already done well in the Belgian E1. First with a 125 four-stroke and then with the Fantic 200. He will be our spearhead. We are also looking for two additional official pilots, one for the 50cc and one for the 125 four-stroke. We have a few pilots in mind for the European Championship, French, British and Pole too. However, at this time it is still too early to reveal any names.
