Dhe name Mugen is music to the ears of nostalgic MX fans. From 1976 to 1991, Mugen produced the infamous “Banzai” kits that put many Hondas on the podium. Mugen then went on to achieve success in motorsports, winning in F1, Formula 3000, Formula Nippon and American Le Mans.

Now Mugen made a long-awaited comeback in Europe with a completely new kit for the CRF250R/450R with injection. The Mugen CRF450R kit, which consists of a cylinder and cylinder head, ECU with exclusive Mugen mapping and, if they say so themselves: a very gizmo titanium exhaust system. This kit was not only extensively tested on the test bench at Mugen in Japan, but also in practice. First in his home country by an All-Japan MX rider and then in Great Britain by an unnamed MX1 top rider from the British championship.

Mugen claims a 17% increase in torque at low revs, coupled with 7% at high revs. Powerful enough, but the kit still meets the applicable noise standards, as shown by a recent test in Great Britain. The kits for the 2009 and 2010 CRF450 R will be available in early 2010. The CRF250R will be available shortly thereafter. Pricing and how these kits will be available for purchase are not known at this time.
